How much does it cost to get jewelry installed or a new piercing?

RION offers many services in each of our studios, including ear, nostril, navel, and other body piercings. Piercing service fees are separate from the price of jewelry, which is priced individually/per piece and varies widely based on the materials, size, and style. For prices and appointments, please click on the link below:

Can I bring in my own jewelry to get installed/pierced?

Yes, but we have specific guidelines regarding using your own previously worn jewelry for an install or new piercing.  The jewelry must adhere to the APP standards of body jewelry and be from an APP vendor. To view more information, visit the APP site here! For steps on what to expect when coming to RION, please read Getting Pierced at RION  for more info.

How old do I have to be to get jewelry installed or a new piercing?

We do not pierce children under 5 years old, and we must have verbal consent from children that they want to be pierced when they come in for their appointment with their parent or legal guardian and the proper paperwork. More information about piercings for minors under the age of 18 can be found on our Children’s Piercings at RION page.

Why is it important to downsize my piercing and how do I know when it is time to do so?

Downsizing is the process of switching jewelry to a shorter post after the initial swelling has gone down after you get pierced. It’s important to downsize your jewelry in order to avoid potential complications, such as irritations, bumps, or odd angles as your piercing heals up.

If you notice your piercing is irritating you or your jewelry is moving around a bit, it’s likely time for you to come in for a downsizing. Following your piercing, your piercer will likely recommend that you return for a downsizing consultation, generally between 2-6 weeks from your initial appointment.

These are some of the signs to look out for when considering when to come in to RION for a downsizing (via the Association of Professional Piercers):

More information on downsizing is available here (also via the APP). If you have any additional questions, you can also Contact Us!

What is expected of me when I come in for a piercing at RION? Is there any basic studio etiquette that I should follow?

Yes, there are a few general guidelines you should keep in mind when visiting RION, including:

  • If you have not yet chosen your piercing jewelry, we recommend coming in 10-20 minutes early to take a look at our amazing selection and be taken through our curation process.
  • Don’t handle your piercings (even if they are healed) or jewelry at the counter or in the restroom. This protects you, other clients and our team from potential cross contamination.
  • Please bring in previously worn jewelry in a baggie and never place used jewelry on the counter.
  • Do not insert jewelry in the restroom or other area of the studio. If you want to have your jewelry changed, our piercers will happily help you with this.
  • In the piercing room, please turn off your cell phone. Our piercer will also direct you to where you can place your personal belongings.
  • Before taking pictures in the piercing room, please check with your piercer as camera flashes can be very distracting during a piercing procedure.

Additional guidelines that we follow are available here (via the Association of Professional Piercers).

What is the difference between the piercing jewelry offered at RION and the jewelry sold elsewhere?

The piercing jewelry sold at RION is nickel-free and only contains the purest implant-grade bioinert metals (meaning they do not react when they come in contact with your body) in order to promote the best wearing experience. If you’ve ever had an allergic reaction such as pain, excessive swelling, or discoloration after getting pierced at another studio or the mall, it may have been because of the low-grade metal alloys that the jewelry was made of.

More information on piercing jewelry quality can be found in our article Better Metal Matters, here.

What are the different types of backs for piercing jewelry offered at RION?
Threadless Backs

Also known as press-fit jewelry, threadless backs are secure, comfortable, and easy to swap out for a new look. The system consists of two to three components, including a post and a removable decorative end, the latter of which is slightly bent to create tension when inserted into the post for a perfect fit. Popular among all ages and lifestyles for their versatility.

Threaded Backs
There are two styles of threaded jewelry and they are not created equal. Internally threaded is the only type of threaded jewelry suitable for the health and safe healing of your jewelry. This type of post is perfectly smooth, providing a comfortable insertion and wear (the other type, Externally threaded, has visible threading on the post that would then go through your piercing, which is painful and exposes your piercing to numerous contaminants). Internally threaded jewelry, the only style offered in professional piercing studios, can have either two or three components to the jewelry, an End (or the front piece you see when looking at the jewelry), and a post, which can wither be one solid piece or have a separate post and backing (either a disk or ball).

How do I clean my piercing?

Can I get a piercing if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

For various safety reasons, we do not offer piercing services for any individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Per the Association of Professional Piercers:

The body’s immune system undergoes serious changes during pregnancy. These changes have a negative effect on healing, and may even prevent piercings received shortly before becoming pregnant from finishing healing. Sometimes even healed piercing will act up while you are pregnant. For these reasons, we even advise against stretching existing piercings during pregnancy.

There is also a slight but important risk that if you experience a complication, such as an infection, that your pregnancy or fetus would be negatively affected. While the chances are slim, it’s just not worth the risk, and no reputable professional would knowingly offer you services while you are with child.
